The Flower Moon May 12th 2025

The Flower Moon Rises – May 12

On Monday, May 12, the Flower Full Moon will grace our skies, reaching peak illumination at 12:56 p.m. EDT. While you won’t see petals drifting across the heavens, this moon earns its name from spring’s vibrant bloom, when the Earth bursts into color and life.

Though it peaks during daylight, don’t worry—you can still catch a breathtaking moonrise that evening. Just after sunset, look east. If the skies are clear, you may witness the moon glowing in soft shades of yellow or coral, as Earth’s atmosphere gently scatters its light.

This year’s Flower Moon is a micromoon, appearing slightly smaller and dimmer, as it rises from its farthest distance from Earth. Yet its magic remains undiminished.

Keep an eye out for a sparkling companion nearby: Antares, the red heart of the Scorpius constellation, twinkling like a celestial heartbeat beside the moon.

In folklore, this moon marked the beginning of the planting season and the return of Fertile Earth. The Cree called it the Budding Moon or the Egg Laying Moon. Others knew it as the Frog Moon, when ponds echoed once again with the croaks of spring’s awakening.

So whether you’re a gardener, a stargazer, or a moonchild at heart—step outside Monday night. Let the Flower Moon remind you that spring is alive, the Earth is fertile, and wonder is always waiting just above the horizon.

Blessings to all

Janine xoxo
